Our Commitment to the Environment

Environment

We are very conscious that tourism is not an environmentally friendly activity even though it is economically important, so we are committed to minimising damage to this lovely part of England and to the world as a whole. We recycle as much as we can, walk to the shops daily for our supplies, use locally produced items if feasible, and switch off the lights in unused areas of the house to cut down on unnecessary power consumption.

Why not leave the car at home and arrive by train and bus, or leave the car in our car park and explore the local area on foot, by bike, or by public transport?

For a rural area with a low population density you will find that Pickering has a superb public transport network and is at the intersection of two long distance bus routes (one of which passes through York with its national rail and bus connections) with hourly services throughout the day and all year. Of course there is also the steam railway which runs from Pickering into the moors and through to the coast at Whitby for most of the year. In the summer months and some additional Sundays outside the main holiday period there is an extensive Moorsbus network making even the most remote parts of the moors accessible by bus. We are always ready to give advice and assistance to explain the options available for getting around Ryedale and the moors without using the car.

We keep a stock of all the local bus and rail timetables, or they can be accessed by the following links:
