Bramwood was built around 1734 out of local stone as a gentleman’s residence. It still retains features such as part of the bell pull system for summoning servants from their quarters in the cellar, wooden window shutters to the ground floor rooms, fireplaces in most bedrooms, and some later additions such as the Victorian water pump in the garden and the bread oven in the breakfast kitchen. Times change, however, as do people’s fortunes, and it become a guest house in 1969. The original stable block at the far end of the garden become two holiday cottages in 1999.
After your day out why not relax in our peaceful, well-stocked walled garden. Blackbirds, robins and thrushes nest in the bushes most years, and some of them become quite tame, so please don’t tell the local moggies. In the cooler months you can toast your toes in front of the log fire in our cosy guest lounge. If you arrive at teatime we will serve you tea and biscuits while you browse through our comprehensive selection of local information, walks, maps, etc.
We welcome house parties, especially out of season. Don’t hesitate to discuss your requirements with us. If you are celebrating a special occasion such as an anniversary or birthday we’ll be pleased to arrange for chocolates and flowers to be put in your room on arrival.
Children aged 5 and over are welcome. Sorry, we do not accept pets but there are kennels just a short drive away. We have no facilities for smokers and adopt a strict no smoking policy throughout the property including the external areas.
